Air Plant (Tillandsia) Care

  • Light – Bright, but filtered. Grow in the house within 6 feet of a bright window or outside under a tree or patio cover. No direct sun in late spring, summer, or early fall. Will also grow well under fluorescent lights!
  • Water – Thoroughly wet 2-3 times per week; more often in a hot, dry environment, less often in a cool, humid one.
    • We dunk-and-swish, then shake the plants off. Running under your faucet is also good, as long as you don't soften your water.
    • Use non - softened tap water, rainwater, or bottled water (not destilled).
    • Plants should be given enough light and air circulation to dry in no longer than 4 hours after watering.
  • Temperature – 45°-95°F
  • Fertilizer – Optional for quicker growth and blooms. Fertilize once per Month March - November using Bromiliad fertilizer or any high quality fertilizer at ¼ the recommended strength. Careful! Over-fertilizing can burn the plants.
